Working Full-time

Diagnosed with ABC June 2018 at age of 60.

Diagnosis de novo metastatic breast cancer June 18 at age of 60.

Work has been very supportive from the start. I chose full disclosure with my HR department from the beginning. This helped me to get used to the diagnosis and no need for secrecy; my colleagues were understanding and supportive as they understood why I was having regular time off (hospital appointments) and short notice breaks (hospitalised due to infections or recovering from side effects).

I also benefitted from private medical health insurance via my employer. I have been working full-time since diagnosis, albeit with a lot of spells of sickness. From 1st Sept 2021, I will be working 3 days per week. Continuing to work has been a blessing to me; it gives me something else to focus on, and helps me to maintain a sense of normality and improve my mental health.
