I am a high school teacher and I have a large family: a husband, three grown children, two dogs and elderly parents. I am 58 years old. I was diagnosed with TSM at the same time as breast cancer was diagnosed 5 and a half years ago. I have osteo-thickening bone metastases, currently stable. I underwent a very demanding double mastectomy and removal of all the lymph nodes on both sides. I have been helped a lot by my doctors, both professionally and personally. I never had the feeling of being left on my own.
I stopped working for about 6 months to fully recover from a very demanding double mastectomy and removal of all lymph nodes on both sides. I only went back to work when I felt ready, which is only possible in a government job like mine, and absolutely necessary to get back to working at my best. I have used 104 days only for exams and checks, as my quality of life is excellent at the moment.
I would like to say that the communication of doctors is fundamental, in all phases of the disease: I had a first diagnosis, then a second one after about a month, and then a relapse after 5 years. I have gone through treatment and therapy reviews. I could not have done all this with serenity without my doctors, who have taken care of me as a person, in all these phases. They didn't just cure my cancer.
